Facial Eczema – Seborrheic Dermatitis

Posted by Thatsgirly on June 18, 2009 - 10:54 pm

So I have suffered from eczema all my life but it was only until I was around 14 I started to get eczema on my face. As a teenagaer I found this really destressing and plastered my face in make up to cover it up (in hindsight it was probably making it worse!)

I had a patch test when I was around 18 and I was told that I was allergic to nickel and lanolin (wools grease) which was actually quite a relief to find ingrediants to avoid! I checked the ingrediants of all the products I was using, I noticed my face wipes had lanolin in :-(  so I stopped using them and my skin started to clear up.

Anyway years had passed and sometimes my face would be fine and other times I would get really bad flare ups (especially around exam time!). I would just bare through it and use hydrocorrisone when it was really bad (which does have side effects when used on a long term basis) and I just learned to live with it. I had given up with going to the doctor as each time he just kept giving me the same treatments!

I’m not sure what spurred me on but I went to the doctors and usual doctor was not in so I saw the replacement. I told him my problems and he took one look at my face and said I know what you have got seborrheic dematitis. He explained that it was a condition that was very similar to dandruff where the skin is reacting to the yeast on my skin. I was told that there is no cure for this however he did prescribe me Daktacort which is a mix of hydracortisone and miconazole nitrate. He also recommended that I use aqueous cream as a facial wash to help it.

So I am going to start my treatment and I  will keep you updated in two weeks with the results.

Post soon xoxo
